Hello! This week we’re talking about breaking up with diet culture.
Breaking up with diet culture is hard. Why? Dieting isn’t just about vanity or how we look—it’s an identity, a purpose, a value system. When people suggest that dieting is superficial, they’re missing the point. Dieting is an act of self-preservation. It’s driven by a desire for acceptance, which is crucial to our survival.
When I was following diet culture rules—eat this, not that, watch your weight, and so on—I was a good girl. I was dedicated to doing things right and being right. I thought that was expected and required of me.
