Hello! This week we’re talking about obsession versus engagement.
In our culture, we’re constantly bombarded with messages that teach us to become obsessive about food, weight, and exercise. And don’t get me wrong! Taking good care of ourselves can feel really good. But obsession is not so great. Knowing the difference between being engaged in your health and becoming obsessed with it can help you find the sweet spot of engagement.Â
One of the ways I know when I’m in my sweet spot is that I don’t feel as if anything is non-negotiable. I had enough rules during my eating disorder to last a lifetime, so now rigid rules are usually a sign that I’m tipping out of engagement and into obsession.Â
What about you? This weekend, consider how you’re approaching your health. Do you feel as if you’re in the sweet spot of engagement, or are you tipping into obsession or the opposite end—apathy? Consider whether changing the way you approach food and exercise would help you find a sweeter spot than where you are right now.
